pho•to•cop•i•er (foh-tuh-kop-ee-er): An app that creates a photographic reproduction of a printed or graphic work made with a process in which a new image is formed by the action of proprietary image analysis, color, texture and light. We have…..
Rated 3/5 based on 3 customer reviews.
Sort of blah.
A simply little app with a minimalistic interface with four different adjustable function controls. Interface is a little difficult as controls are not labeled. Tap the double triangles in the upper right hand corner to cycle between vignette, ND grad filter, letterbox, and luminance. Each function's label appears as an overlay on the photo after you tap. The three dots in the upper left hand corner lead to a menu where you can load a photo, save a photo, or cycle through the effects again (seems to be a repeat of the right hand corner controls).
Effects are adjusted by two sliders on the bottom of the screen. Photos save in full resolution (for an iPhone 4) which is great! Sliders are responsive, but getting a particular "retro" look is hard and this app seems to be more of a photo editing/corrective app with basic controls. Would love to see some pre-set filters or control/combinations.
Ignore the negative reviews they are from people who don't understand the App. I read one review that said all the effects were the same, not true unless you don't have a discerning eye, I'll admit some filters look quite similar but the ones that do actually have subtle differences depending on the source image. This is an App for photographers or graphic designers who use their iPhones for art. This is not a good app for point and shooter's trying to make their crappy photos suddenly look good. This is an app for someone with a good eye wanting to replicate classic film looks to an already great shot. I applied almost all the effects one at a time to a great source image to compare and each one did unique things to highlights/shadows, tone, color, grain, texture, etc... I love the ability to apply infinite fine tweaking to my images. Most apps don't allow this much noodling. If you expect a one click fix this isn't for you. If you have an eye for fine art photography and you have Photoshop skills you'll love this app.
The application was installed on a 64GB un-jailbroken iPad which contains no particularly “fancy” software to get in the way. It has consistently crashed after attempting to load a jpeg image. It is barely imaginable that any reputable software developer would release such trash... but apparently they did. Rigorously tested? I think not.
The cost of the app is trivial but given this is the first app I’ve ever purchased that has bombed 100% of the time, if there were a way to “go after” the developer or participate in a class action suit, I would.
I used to read reviews and shake my head when someone would go off about some app. Well, I think I understand now.
